South African Defensive Pistol Association is a sport shooting organisation registered with the SAPS Central Firearm Registry (CFR) since 2004. Sport1300029 (8 December 2004) SADPA has it’s own sport shooting rules and regulations.
The organisation is comprised of individual clubs who affiliate with SADPA and those club members then pay membership fees to SADPA. This enables paid-up members to attain Dedicated Sport Shooting (DSS) status and/or get their firearms endorsed for licensing purposes.
SADPA event rules makes it possible for members to use most types of firearms in a shooting event suited for that firearm e.g. handgun events, shotgun events, rifle events or any combination there off.
The founders developed the sport so that practical gear and practical guns may be used competitively. An interested person can spend a minimal amount on equipment and still be competitive.
The main goal is to test the skill and ability of the individual, not equipment or gamesmanship. “Competition only” equipment is not permitted in this sport.
Shooters compete against and with similar skilled competitors.
Shooters are classed by like-skill levels with progression from:
- Novice (NV)
- Marksman (MM)
- Sharpshooter (SS)
- Expert (EX)
- Master (MA)
